Ian Berg is a PhD student in the Bioengineering Department working in the Underhill Lab. Ian received a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a minor in Bioengineering. After completing his undergraduate degree, Ian spent three years working in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry before returning to UIUC to pursue graduate studies. He is now a scholar in the Tissue Microenvironment Training Program. His current research focuses on developing a 3D cell culture platform to probe the impact of mechanical and biochemical cues in the microenvironment on liver progenitor cell differentiation.
